WHY 'OWN BACKYARD'?
'Own Backyard Travel' was launched in May 2020 in response to the effects of the worldwide corona virus pandemic and the resultant (albeit necessary) economic shutdowns. Australian businesses are suffering, most travel businesses have closed and not all will reopen. Australian workers employed in the travel industry - and associated industries - are losing their jobs and their livelihoods in numbers never seen before.

All of this on top of the horrific bushfires.

It's no secret that Australia has tackled this pandemic better than just about any other country. Many parts of the world have not been as fortunate in defending against this pandemic, and some will likely struggle with this virus for years to come. Even as we look forward to the reopening of our state borders, it's clear that the Australian government will not be opening our borders to international tourism for a long time after that, maybe a year or more.

THIS MEANS TWO THINGS:

1. THERE HAS NEVER BEEN A TIME WHEN AUSTRALIAN BUSINESSES - AND AUSTRALIAN WORKERS - HAVE NEEDED YOUR SUPPORT MORE THAN THEY DO RIGHT NOW...

... AND AT THE SAME TIME, AS IF BY FATE...

2. ALL OF US WHO HAD OVERSEAS VACATIONS PLANNED - EVEN IF THEY WERE LITTLE MORE THAN A DAYDREAM AND A SCREENSAVER PHOTO - WILL BE LOOKING INSTEAD AT HOLIDAY DESTINATIONS RIGHT HERE IN OUR OWN BACKYARD.

That's right, your boys' weekend in Bali isn't going to happen this year. That family ski trip to Japan you were planning before the shutdown? Nope. That bus tour of Europe? Sorry. As much of the world struggles to contain the spread of this virus, international tourism - into or out of Australia - is not likely to be on the agenda any time soon.

Thankfully we have world class ski fields right here in our own backyard. Cathedrals and museums and art galleries too. And tropical jungles. Okay there's no monkey forest. But there's cassowaries and man eating saltwater crocodiles.

It's all here and there's never been a better time to see it - and experience it - for yourself! These local businesses NEED your support like never before, and besides...
